In late March we were rocking on a food project for an out of town client when I received a phone call from a long time friend and art director Hal Pickel. Hal and I go way back to when he was working at The Buntin Group were we worked on some pretty cool national accounts like Purolator & Gabriel Shock and many others.
Hal now works for Ducks Unlimited, a non profit group decade to the preservation of wetlands. Each year Ducks Unlimited http://www.ducks.org hosts over 4000 events annually and is a chief resource from which they draw to conserve over 13 Million acres of wetlands in North America. These wetlands are a vital part of our eco system, they help with water purification, flood control, shoreline stability as well as creating a diverse biologically ecosystem for plants and animals. In fact right here in the state of Tennessee we have just 787,000 acres of wet lands left.
Theses events for the most part have been focused on the mission of conserving, but at this point most of the attendees understand the greater cause. So this year they wanted to focus on the lighter side of the event; so they approached it with “ Have Fun Campaign” Hal had seen some of my recent ground glass portraits and just knew that I could capture the light-hearted manner of some of there attendees, and by utilizing my ground glass technique that would bring a higher level to the campaign. So after some discussion and collaboration between Doug Barnes the Creative Director and Hal we set up our shoot dates for late April on the campus at Ducks Unlimited in Memphis.
These images would end up being full page ad’s in some great national magazines like Field and Stream, Outdoor Life, Gun Dog & Game and Fish. Along with being used as posters at the events.
It was great fun work with Hal again and getting to utilize a technique I have been working with for the last 5 years made it a challenging, but defiantly “FUN!”
Here are some of the Ad’s we shot.
Thanks again Hal!
